The recent explosive growth of social media has been as surprising to some business owners as it has been dramatic. I am often confronted with business owners who don't understand how people have time for social media and are skeptical about whether or not it can really help their business to be successful.
If you build or repair anything, you know the value of having just the right tool. And while having a fancy specialty tool is cool, there is simply no replacement for the requisite hammer, saw and wrench. It's the same with marketing. We love the cool tools but there are some things that no company can do without.
Convert marketing tools into emergency response tools.
The political season is coming around again, and with it a resurgence of the old-fashioned direct mail piece. Or, as I like to think of it, the red-headed stepchild of the advertising world.
It all began when I friended my new brother-in-law, Daniel, on Facebook. He accepted, and in turn friended me and my husband. Then my parents and their spouses friended their new son-in-law, and, in turn, Daniel’s parents began friending his new in-laws. Before you knew it, Facebook was positively afire with Lirettes and Szanyis and all their in-laws, out-laws and extended kin friending each other.
What a dramatic week this has been. Like other historic events, people will forever remember where they were when they heard the news Osama bin Laden was dead. In that instant, heroes were born, tears were shed for those lost, and - perhaps - our nation finally began to heal as justice was carried out.
